President’s Message – May 2017

This month’s report from The President (as published in the Hawk Eye)…

Parade of Garage Sales

Just a reminder that our Parade of Garage Sales is Sunday June 4th this year – see more information in this Hawk Eye.  Also, please do not put any signs of any kind (garage sale, business or realtor) in our flower pots.  And if you do put out any kind of signs – on the boulevards or on the mailboxes – please remove it as soon as your event is done.

Community Clean-up

Once again, we will be holding our FREE Community Clean-up Day on Saturday June 10th at the Hawkwood School parking lot from 9:00AM until 2:00 PM, sharp.  Between these hours, you can bring oversized black bin material, organic material (i.e. spring yard waste), blue bin material, electronics, metal and gently used items that Goodwill could re-sell.  You CANNOT bring large CRT TV’s or paints/chemicals/oil/batteries/hazardous waste (please take that to Spyhill Landfill or Fire Station #17 on 32 Ave. NW).  Also, we would greatly appreciate it if you purchased an HCA membership for $30 prior to dropping off your materials – it would certainly help us!

Community Garden

The Hawkwood Community Garden is taking shape, with many volunteers pitching in to help build and fill the decorative garden beds as well as the composting bins and the shed.  The rain garden will continue to be fenced off until the plants and sod take.  I want to thank the brave souls that took on the challenge of this undertaking this spring and I think this will be a really solid addition to our community and foster a sense of pride for both young & old.  We will be having some training later in June and a grand opening in July, so keep an eye out in the Hawk Eye and our website ( about details.  Many thanks to the Garden Committee for putting in a huge effort in our first growing season!
