This month’s report from The President (as published in the Hawk Eye)…
New Hawkwood Playgrounds
In early May, two new playgrounds were installed at Hawkfield Place and Hawktree Green. I was fortunate to help out on the Hawkfield playground and was amazed (and I shouldn’t be) at the fantastic group of volunteers/neighbours who donated their time, equipment, materials, electricity, etc. to the build. Everyone was super energetic and everyone was well watered, fed and looked after. It was great to meet the nearby residents and renew acquaintances with those Hawkwoodians who just love helping out with the tot lots. As we were finishing up one day, several local kids were looking at the playground and oooohing and aaaahing over it, which made all the tough work worth it! I can’t thank the sponsors and donors enough for all of their support – please return the favour and support them (see the list on the website and the Hawk Eye). Also, none of this would have been possible without the tremendous efforts of the volunteers and Rosanna Law, who managed to spearhead all of these tot lot initiatives. Thank You Everyone!
New Faces at HCA
I want to take this opportunity to welcome two new members of the HCA Board: Mary Noble and Elhadi Hammoutene. Mary is stepping into the role of Social Director and has recently moved into Hawkwood with her two young children. Elhadi is taking on a newly created and combined role of Volunteer & Fundraising Director. Elhadi has been in Hawkwood for about 5 years with his family and will be tasked with keeping tabs on our volunteer needs in Hawkwood as well as fostering relationships with the many donors to our community events. Please join me in welcoming Mary and Elhadi to HCA!
Speaking of HCA Volunteers, we are in need of someone to help out with our Casino, which runs this November 8th & 9th. The role requires someone with some organizational skills and time management skills to pull together the paperwork and volunteers for the two-day casino. We have casinos every 18 months or so and generate about $60,000 in restricted funds to HCA. These funds can only be spent on things like the tot lots, community garden and our ice rink. In fact, these casino funds were instrumental in our two new playgrounds being built at both schools in the summer of 2014. If you think you have a little bit of time and want to help out coordinating our next casino – and our previous Casino Director will help you get started – then please email me at President@HawkwoodCA.com .
