President’s Message – March 2016

This month’s report from The President (as published in the Hawk Eye)…

Reporting Crime in Hawkwood

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) and HCA encourage all residents to report all incidents of crime that they experience or see in Hawkwood.  As evidenced recently in the news, the CPS is willing to re-allocate officers and resources to areas of the city that need it.  The CPS uses statistics to do this and if they don’t know about a crime, they will assume that there isn’t a need for more resources.  What if both you and your neighbour had items stolen from you vehicle (#1 crime in Hawkwood), he reported it and you didn’t, and his property was recovered and returned to him, but yours went unclaimed because you didn’t report it?  Have a read on the short article in this issue and go to www.calgarypolice.ca and check out the huge amount of resources available including reporting a variety of crimes online and registering for The Hub Messaging System.

Hawkwood Soccer

Hawkwood season starts April 18 in Hawkwood at the green space at the Hawkstone field.  Please watch out for families descending on that field from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays until June 20.  Also, if you have to drive to soccer, please consider parking on Hawkhill Road where there is lots of on-street parking along the field.  The only downside is the walk to the soccer games has to go by the playground and that could be a huge distraction to the little ones!

As many of you have noticed, the major road arteries in the City and Hawkwood have been “Pre-Sweeped” by the City Roads Department already this spring.  This will continue until early April, at which point the City will systematically clean the streets until June 1.  I will try and let everyone know in the next Hawk Eye when Hawkwood will get tackled (the information is also available on the City’s website www.calgary.ca/sweep ).  You can help by moving all vehicles off the street and if sweeping is scheduled for garbage and recycling pick-up day (it usually is!) please place your bins on the sidewalk or the grass in front of your house and don’t forget to keep the bins 1 metre (3 feet) apart from each other!
