President’s Message – June 2017

This month’s report from The President (as published in the Hawk Eye)…

Parade of Garage Sales & Community Clean-up

Our annual, back-to-back events in June went pretty well.  We had decent weather for both and the turnout for each event was really good.  I want to thank all the volunteers who pitched in at the Clean-up and especially Bruce Lee, who organized the event – thank you everyone!  Also, I want to thank Kurtis Bain and Homelife Central Real Estate for sponsoring the Parade of Garage Sales – it, too, was a huge success.

Picnic in the Garden

On Sunday, July 30th we will be celebrating the opening of our Community Garden and celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday!  From 1-3PM we will have games, events,  and lots of things for families to enjoy as well as well as food and garden tours/demonstrations.  Our community garden is located at the old baseball diamond located behind Dreamview Village and Village on the Park off Hawkwood Hill.  Please come by and help us celebrate!

New Face at HCA

We are very pleased to announce that Danielle Kiss has stepped forward as the volunteer Editor for the Hawk Eye.  Danielle has been in Hawkwood for the better part of a decade and has a young family.  She has volunteered for other organizations including the Hawkwood Scouts.  Please help me in welcoming Danielle to the HCA and if you have any questions or concerns with the Hawk Eye, please contact her at  I would also like to again thank Glynndon Dobson who pitched in brilliantly for almost two years as our editor – Thanks Glynn!

HCA Soccer

We have just wrapped up another season of Hawkwood Community Soccer and the weather did not disappoint!  I want to thank Jurgen Dauter for his efforts as the Soccer Director over the last few seasons.  Because his kids have now graduated from the program, he will be stepping down, so we are in need of a new Soccer Director.  If you have participated in the HCA spring soccer, and would like to see it continue, please consider volunteering, otherwise the program will not continue.  If you are interested please contact me at

As you are reading this, the kids are finishing up their school year and getting ready for summer vacation.  So please be aware of more kids on the streets and playgrounds during the day now, and respecting those playground zone speed limits.  Also, be very considerate of your neighbours this summer with noises too late (or early) in the day, smoky firepits, RV parking and things like unkempt gardens and lawns.  Remember the golden rule – treat others how you would want them to treat you!  Enjoy the summer and have fun!
