This month’s report from The President (as published in the Hawk Eye)…
Registration for our community based recreational soccer program for U4, U6 and U8 players is coming to a close on March 1, so hurry up and register. You can still register after March 1, but you will have to pay late fees. This is a lot of fun for the kids and the parents and a good opportunity to meet other families and kids from Hawkwood. We also need volunteers, so please consider volunteering as a coach or helping out with the uniforms or equipment – we couldn’t run this program without you! The season starts in late April so look for more information in this Hawk Eye and on our website www.HawkwoodCA.com .
We held our first event of 2017 on January 21st and it happened on a beautiful, winter day at the Hawkstone Rink. DJ Fish provided the tunes, and families came out to our Winter Festival and enjoyed hot dogs, juice and hot chocolate. Thanks to all who came out on such a lovely day and more thanks to the volunteers that helped out.
I understand that a resident witnessed an unfortunate incident in one of our green spaces in January. A bottle picker was seen defecating in Hawkstone Park next to a fenced yard. This is not the first time I have heard of this and unfortunately, unless Bylaw or the Police are there on the spot, there is not much that can be done from an enforcement perspective. However, if there is nothing of value in our blue bins, these people will move on. So, I said it before and it needs repeating – DO NOT put refundables (pop/beer cans, bottles, tetra paks, etc.) in your blue bin. Instead, save them and donate them to one of the sports teams, schools or the Hawkwood Scouts (March 11th), who have regular bottle drives in Hawkwood.
