This month’s report from The President (as published in the Hawk Eye)…
Congratulations to Councillor Joe Magliocca
On behalf of the HCA, I want to congratulate Joe Magliocca for being re-elected as the Ward 2 Councillor. This is Joe’s second term and he and his team at City Hall have been very supportive of Hawkwood and the issues we have here. As always, we will endeavour to continue to work well with Joe and his team and if there are any issues in Hawkwood that don’t seem to be getting the attention they deserve, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Councillor Magliocca.
It was a chilly Sunday outside in early November when we had our 2nd annual Fall Festival at St. Thomas United Church, but the energy levels were off the charts inside with all the games and activities. We had colouring contests, dancing contests and a raffle with over a dozen prizes for the many families that came out. I want to thank the many volunteers and of course the sponsors who donated those great prizes.
HCA Needs You!
As I write this, we will be having our AGM in just over 3 weeks and I can’t help but notice that we have several vacancies that really need to be filled. Have a look at the list beside this message – some key roles such as Soccer, Webmaster and Membership are really required to keep this community strong. If you have a desire to help out in this great community, want to work with some other wonderful people and have a wee bit of time to spare, please consider one of the roles. Our retiring directors have offered to help train the next generation, so please don’t feel like you will be thrown to the wolves! Please contact me at President@HawkwoodCA.com if you are interested and I can answer any questions you may have.
Well, it’s here! The cold temperatures and snow have showed up in November and looks like we might be in for a long one. This also means our skating rink at Hawkstone Park will be firing up very soon. And the upkeep of the rink doesn’t happen by itself – we need a little bit of help from community residents (both young & old) to help sweep and flood the rink a couple of times a week during the winter. The veteran Rink Rats will train you – all you need to bring is warm clothing, a couple hours of effort a month and you will be rewarded by the warm smiles and gratitude of those who use it. Please reach out to me to find out how you can sign up to help. Also, in the spirit of being a good neighbour, don’t forget to shovel your sidewalks and don’t be afraid to be a Snow Angel and clear off a neighbour’s as well!
I know its several weeks away, but on behalf of the Board of Directors at the HCA, I want to wish everyone a safe, warm and happy holiday season. I hope you look forward to that time of year to spend time with loved ones as I do. Merry Christmas everyone!
